Mark is Senior Lecturer in Law and Research Director for Law at Ulster University, based at the university’s Magee campus in Derry-Londonderry. Mark has been researching social security in the context of devolution since commencing his PhD in 2012. Key projects have examined social citizenship in the devolved UK and experiences of receiving universal credit in Northern Ireland. His work on the characteristics of social security systems based on dignity and respect was influential in the establishment of the Scottish social security system, to which he continues to contribute as a member of the Scottish Commission on Social Security. Mark’s secondary research interest is in environmental law, with a focus on nature conservation and the right to enjoy the environment - reflecting his own love of the outdoors.
